Rumors that Apple is working on reducing the docking port in new iOS products surfaced back in February this year. The company is believed to be making changes in order to save space on its devices.

We've already seen the idea of a smaller dock leaked for the next generation iPhone. And if this information was not enough to convince you of the coming changes, then the news of the new Apple patent proves the reliability of all the early rumors.
Macworld points out that a new patent that Apple has received today describes possible changes to data and power connectors in Apple devices. The patent was filed under the name "Power Adapters and / or Charging Peripherals".
And here's the most interesting part of the patent:
While this sounds ridiculous and sounds like reasoning, there are still rumors that Apple plans to introduce a new charging port on the new smartphone this fall. According to recent rumors, Apple plans to equip the new iPhone with a 19-pin port instead of a 30-pin one and release a dedicated adapter.
Of course, none of the above can be confirmed until we see the new iPhone 5. But as new facts accumulate, this is believed more and more.
