Singapore airline Scoot went for an interesting experiment. On one of their flights from Singapore to Sydney, all entertainment equipment was completely dismantled from the aircraft. Large TV screens, monitors, a powerful audio system and a server for media services were dismantled. Instead, an iPad is used to entertain passengers on board.

Each user is given a tablet on which several films and videos, many books and a large collection of audio tracks are already loaded. After doing a little research, they plan to install popular games on the iPad. Each passenger can independently find entertainment for every taste. For those who fly in business class, this service is free, the rest of the passengers will have to pay $ 17 for the opportunity to use the tablet.
This approach made it possible to reduce the weight of the aircraft by as much as 7%, thus reducing fuel consumption. And to maintain the aircraft now requires less personnel, because there is no longer a need to monitor a large number of monitors and speakers.
The innovation did not affect the ticket price in any way, it remained the same at around $ 200. If the experiment succeeds, then we should expect the iPad to appear on the planes of other companies.
