Business Insider today released a report on research findings from analyst firm Canaccord Genuity, in which analyst Michael Walkley claims that Samsung's flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S III, surpassed Apple's iPhone 4S to become the top-selling smartphone in the United States.

In particular, according to the analyst, iPhone 4S continues to occupy the first line in sales during August at the mobile operator AT & T, but moved to the second line at the operator Sprint, yielding to Galaxy S III. The worst selling iPhone 4S was Verizon in August. The smartphone took the third place, behind Galaxy S III and Motorola RAXR MAXX. By the way, Samsung Galaxy S III is also at the top of sales for T-Mobile, which does not officially sell iPhone.
The decline in popularity of the iPhone 4S can be attributed to a number of factors. This could be attributed to increased interest for Samsung's recent flagship smartphone, which has been on sale for just over two months. Also, most likely, the fall in demand for the iPhone 4S in August caused the upcoming release of the iPhone 5, the invitation to the presentation of which was distributed today by Apple.
