Apparently, Apple's management was so carried away by the presentation of the iPhone 5 that they even forgot to mention the new nano-SIM standard used in the sixth generation smartphone. Unfortunately, iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S owners will have to ditch the micro-SIM in favor of nano-SIM. This is the price of progress.
The information that Apple is developing a new standard for SIM cards appeared back in March this year. Then several versions of nano SIM were submitted to the European Institute of Telecommunication Standards for consideration. In addition to Apple, such giants of smartphone manufacturing as Motorola, RIM and Nokia offered their versions of reduced SIM cards. However, the EITS adopted the nano SIM card standard from Apple.

The use of a nano SIM card allows you to increase the free space inside the smartphone to accommodate more important components, such as a battery, and also implies a reduction in the weight and overall dimensions of the smartphone.
The iPhone 5 is the world's first phone to use a nano SIM card.
PS It is not yet known whether the "cropped" micro-SIM will work as a nano, but we will closely monitor this issue and will inform you immediately.
