In anticipation of voting for a new SIM card standard proposed by Apple, the company's specialists decided to slightly change the structure of their Nano-SIM, adding a little plastic around the edges. This was done in order to exclude the possibility of the SIM-card getting stuck in case of installation in the wrong slot. It was also worth waiting for a response from Motorola, RIM and Nokia, taking into account the updated proposal from Apple.

The new schematic can be seen above, below is Apple's Nano-SIM variant.

According to the resource The Verge:
The next hearing on the adoption of the new SIM-card standard will be held on May 31 and June 1 - then it will become clear whether the members of the European Institute of Telecommunication Standards will agree to use an analogue of Nano-SIM, which includes the ideas of all four applicant companies, or will stop at the option from Apple.
Surprisingly, about 80% of voters give their preference to the Apple option. These are: AT&T, Deutsche Telekom, Orange, Gemalto, Telecom Italia, Telefonica, Verizon, Vodafone and many others.
