Operator AT&T has launched 4G LTE towers in 10 of the largest new cities in the United States, especially for today's launch of the iPhone 5, which is the first Apple smartphone to support this type of connectivity. AT&T already activated its 4G LTE network last week in
the following cities: Birmingham, Alabama, Cincinnati, Ohio, Fayetteville, North Carolina, Honolulu, Hawaii, Memphis, Tennessee, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Sacramento, California, Seattle, Washington, Wilmington, Delaware.

AT&T's 4G LTE debut coincides with the launch of the new iPhone, which is the most popular smartphone at AT&T, however, press releases issued by the company do not mention the iPhone 5. AT&T has instead focused on promoting other 4G-enabled devices: the Motorola Atrix HD. Sony Xperia, HTC One X, Samsung Focus 2, Nokia Lumia 900, Samsung Galaxy Note and others. Towers in new cities appeared a few weeks after AT&T turned on LTE network in nine other cities. At the same time, the operator promises that by the end of the year the coverage will extend to 34 more towns, including Denver Boulder, Colorado, Albany, New York, Detroit, Michigan, and El Paso, Texas.
Current iPhone 4S owners who are AT&T subscribers will see their signal appear as '4G' in the status bar. This is because AT&T has also started promoting its HSDPA (4G) network as it operates at high speeds, almost like LTE. However, it is not a true fourth generation network.
Unlike the iPhone 4S, the LTE symbol will show off in the upper left corner on the iPhone 5 and iPad 3.
