DisplayMate Technologies, a display testing company, compared leading smartphones from Apple and Samsung. The results of the examination showed that the image of the 4-inch Retina display in the iPhone 5 is significantly better than in the OLED display installed in the Samsung Galaxy III S.

DisplayMate's "tech shootout" of leading smartphones reflected not only a comparison between the iPhone 5 and the Galaxy III S, but also the Retina display found in the iPhone 4, showing how much Apple technology has advanced over the past two years.
The test consisted of numerous tests checking characteristics such as brightness and contrast, glare (reflection from sunlight), colors and saturation, viewing angles, power consumption during operation, and impact on battery life.
Apple for some unknown reason has underestimated the display characteristics of its new device. Compared to the previous smartphone, the iPhone 5 has reduced screen reflection (does not cast glare in the sun) by 52%, increased contrast by 57% and improved color accuracy. Raymond Soneira of DisplayMate Technologies notes that the iPhone 5 display has very good calibration, while the color gamut suffers from less saturation.

As for Samsung, the display on the Galaxy S III is excellent, but the OLED screen technology is still improving and is not yet able to compete with the LCD technology used in the iPhone 5.
