A study published on Thursday claims iPad accounts for nearly all tablet traffic and 54.5 percent of all mobile traffic. The study involved sites powered by the touch-based Onswipe platform.

In its first-ever study, Onswipe, a digital developer tool that helps websites create a "touch-friendly" user experience without having to develop a separate app, found that between September 13 and September 20, Apple had 98 tablets. 1 percent of 29.5 million unique visitors to over 1,200 sites.
Still, Apple isn't the only company on the market. Following it, the share of web traffic was distributed in the following order: Samsung Galaxy Tab - 1.53 percent and Motorola's Xoom - 0.21. The 7-inch tablet from Amazon's Kindle Fire ranks 4th with 0.11 percent.
“The iPad is a device for surfing the web,” said Onswipe CEO Jason Baptiste, explaining that his company can track devices and data interactions across Onswipe-powered sites.

Digging deeper, it's easy to find that iPad users surf the web 56.9 percent more time than iPhone users, presumably because the larger display is better suited for this purpose.
It should also be noted that the share of the iPad is 54.5 percent in the total volume of mobile Internet traffic, which is more than twice the share of the iPhone with its 19.05 percent, despite their massiveness.
Interestingly, users of small-screen devices such as Amazon tablets generate 138 percent more page views per visit relative to Apple's tablet. The results of the study allow us to see that perhaps the future of tablets is in the 7-inch devices attacking the market, perhaps this study will push manufacturers to release smaller tablets than Apple's existing iPad.

As for the share of operating systems, Apple iOS owns 75.12 percent of mobile content of the total consumption of mobile content in the Onswipe network of sites. Next comes Android with a share of 22.3 percent and another 2.5 percent for the remaining operating systems.
Batista noted that iOS 6 accounts for 40.8 percent of all iOS traffic. Of the 250,000 iOS users who participated in the study, 56.76 have upgraded to iOS 6.
It is worth noting that since iOS 6 was introduced very recently, the number of updated users is amazing. For example, even a third of Android devices have not been updated to the latest version of the operating system and a huge number of devices, according to manufacturers, cannot be updated for technical reasons. For example, HTC Disare 2011 (at that time a fairly popular device) cannot be updated to the latest version of Android OS, while iPhone 3GS of 2009 successfully received the iOS 6 update.
