Data from the US Patent and Trademark Office indicates that the Korean company has stepped up towards the accumulation of intellectual property. With 4,683 applications, it was in second place in the overall ranking of companies, while Apple did not even make the top 10.

In Cupertino, obviously, they are busy improving the existing developments and are not thinking about new inventions yet - in 2013, Apple representatives submitted "only" 1501 applications. Leadership in this area belongs unconditionally to IBM, which registered 6508 patent applications last year. The second place went to Samsung, the third went to Canon - it had 3408 applications. And on the fourth is Foxconn, known as one of the main partners of the "apple" brand and a manufacturer of a significant share of all components for iGadgets.
Curiously, if you go beyond the United States and consider the situation on a global scale, then Foxconn, according to some sources, has more than 55,000 applications and patents received. About six months ago, there was a shift and the company began to actively patent its developments. So much so that there was a rumor that Foxconn intends to get out of the "tutelage" of Apple and drastically reduce its dependence on the American IT giant intellectually.

Apple, most likely, does not consider this a serious threat to its interests, in any case, no noticeable reaction has yet followed. In general, in 2013, the iPhone manufacturer, compared to other players in the market, showed little interest in patents. Apple has 12th place in the general list - ahead of it, in addition to the 4 leaders, are Microsoft (2565 applications), Panasonic (2136), Qualcomm (2103), Sony (2100), Toshiba (2006), General Electric (1939) and Fujitsu (1593).
