So Apple is predictably starting to roll out 4K Ultra HD monitors for Mac Pro workstations. The first model of the monitor with a resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels from the Japanese manufacturer Sharp has already appeared in the European Apple Stores.

Japanese developers were the first to introduce the concept of the UltraHD format and it is not surprising that Sharp was the first vendor to offer the appropriate output devices (it was also previously assumed that Apple would release its own Ultra HD monitors - ThunderBolt 2 Display in early December). The cost of Sharp PN-K321 in Apple branded stores fluctuates around 200 thousand rubles and many users are already ready to evaluate the new product. However, it is necessary to understand in detail exactly what advantages Ultra HD monitors have over the usual Full HD panels.

Ultra HD is an ultra-high definition image format that involves not only the use of a matrix with a resolution of 4K (3840 x 2160 pixels) or 8K (7680 x 4320 pixels). To be fully Ultra HD compliant, the monitor must also be Rec. 2020 - have a sweep rate of 60 to 120 Hz (the new product from Sharp meets the lower threshold), provide color depths up to 12 bits per channel, etc. At the same time, the size of an uncompressed one-hour film often exceeds 25 terabytes, and the data transmission channel speed should be at the level of 20 Gbps. Naturally, most of the existing Ultra HD displays do not fit into this framework and therefore we can only talk about the stage of formation of the industry for the production of devices of this format.

However, Sharp PN-K321 monitorshave impressive characteristics - color brightness 350 cd / m², weight - only 7.5 kg, etc. Such a display will serve as a good help to owners of new Mac Pro workstations, which are designed primarily for professionals and big multimedia lovers. Actually, again questions arise regarding the availability of relevant content - the available demos are created only for a narrow purpose - to show the advantages of Ultra HD, films in ultra-high definition will not appear soon. However, purchasing a 4K monitor is a step into the future and many users will make it, despite the many "buts".
