Microsoft Doesn't Know What To Do With Surface Tablets

The network got fragments of a closed conference of Microsoft employees, which traditionally takes place after the publication of the financial report for the last quarter. According to the leak, the corporation admitted the complete failure of the Surface tablets, and the only way out of this situation is to sell the devices remaining in the warehouses at even cheaper prices to corporate customers.

We recently wrote that Microsoft has significantly lowered prices for Surface tablets, however, now it has become obvious that dumping has not changed the situation - according to analysts' estimates, 4.5-5 million devices are still in warehouses, and in three quarters there were sold only 1-1.5 million. Against the backdrop of the emergence of the new Nexus 7 of the second generation, as well as the expected release of the new iPad (which is a serious competitor to Microsoft in the corporate segment), the situation looks critical.

The problem is aggravated by the fact that most analysts blame the Windows RT operating system for the Surface failure, not so much the tablet itself - recently, Microsoft has received huge streams of criticism related to mobile platforms (for example, the last "stronghold" of the corporation in the premium smartphone market - Nokia Lumia 1020, has caused objections from reviewers, mainly due to the use of "windows"). It should be noted that after the publication of data from the closed meeting of Microsoft, the corporation "lost weight" by 34 billion dollars - 11.4%!

As mentioned above, the only salvation for Surface RT may be the corporate market, however, not everything is so smooth with Microsoft in this segment. Naturally, most large companies that have invested considerable resources in the creation of existing computer systems on the Windows platform are not eager to rebuild the computer structure, retrain employees, etc. However, the failed, according to many estimates, Microsoft's strategy allowed the competitor to come close and even overtake the "windows" on some frontiers. Office software suites, instant messengers, cloud services and other promising areas have turned, for Microsoft, from a reliable defensive position to a retreat path.
