CitiBank analysts have presented an interesting report, according to which smartphone manufacturers today are forced to resort to marketing gimmicks to highlight the dubious competitive advantages of their smartphones.

This situation has arisen, first of all, as a result of a competitive race, in the course of which the developers used almost all the functional potential of a mobile gadget - a phone, a multimedia player, a navigator, a game console, a camera, an organizer and many other options are already being improved and cannot become an unambiguous argument in favor of one or another vendor. The only service that is still unrealized is instant payments. However, such giants of the IT industry as Apple are already preparing to introduce appropriate technologies, for example, Nier Field Communication, which can be integrated in the next generation of the iPhone.

It is especially worth highlighting the fact that most of the competitive advantages of modern smartphones do not actually bring tangible benefits to the owner of the device. For example, the vast majority of users have difficulty distinguishing between pictures taken with a 4- and 13-megapixel camera, and image density over 300 pixels per square inch is physically indistinguishable from the human eye. However, this does not prevent manufacturers from luring buyers with ads for a 41-megapixel camera (Nokia Lumia 808 Pure View and Lumia 1020) or a 468 ppi screen (HTC One). Separately, we can highlight the performance of modern smartphones - while the developers of microprocessors Qualcomm, Samsung, LGand Media Tech announce 8-core processors, most of the existing software products work quite correctly on 2-core chips.

According to CitiBank analysts, smartphones are now experiencing the situation in which desktop systems found themselves 5 years ago - the advancement of hardware capabilities of software led to a sharp jump in the popularity of netbooks and other portable computers. However, the situation could change dramatically if second-tier manufacturers begin to seriously threaten the leadership positions of Apple and Samsung.
