The range of navigation software for iPhone and iPad has been updated. Recently, a new application appeared in the App Store - Shturmann. This company is known to many as a manufacturer of car navigators with pre-installed software of the same name.

The mobile version of navigation has been available to Android users for a long time, and now the Shturmann navigation program has come to iOS devices.
The Shturmann iOS navigation application uses maps from HERE (a Nokia group of companies). Detailing of maps of major cities at the level: displays the numbers of houses, as well as buildings and courtyards. For example, the map already contains new metro stations in St. Petersburg, which are still not in Apple's maps. For convenience and savings, the cards are bundled into packages.
Several map packages are already available in the App Store: small and inexpensive " Moscow and Moscow Region " (199 rubles) and " St. Petersburg and Leningrad Region " (199 rubles). And for those who like to travel by car in the near abroad, they can install a large package of cards " Russia + Finland + Ukraine " (799 rubles).

Most importantly, Shturmann navigation can be used even if there is no Internet connection: maps are installed directly on the iPhone.
If your iPhone has an uninterrupted Internet connection, then you can use the program's online services. So, for example, the Shturmann navigator supports displaying traffic jams, information about which it receives from the Yandex. Traffic jams service familiar to many. You can configure both automatic and manual traffic updates. Shturmann makes routes taking into account traffic jams rather quickly. For example, the program laid a route of 300 km in a couple of seconds.
Of course, the maps of the Shturmann application also have POIs (points of interest) - there are more than 3 million of them in the database. In the program settings, you can select those points that are most interesting to you. It is also possible to display the gas station with the preferred type of fuel. However, it is worth noting that the search for objects works only online, so the program will be able to plot a route to a point only if you specify its address.

As for other online features of the program, among the additional and useful services are: calling a tow truck directly from the program, gas prices, a guide to the sights of Moscow, a parking map, holes on the road (from RosYama) and much more.

The interface of the Shturmann program is generally pleasantly pleasing. This is not surprising, since Artemy Lebedev's studio was responsible for the design of the program. On the main screen there is a transition to search, settings, map and the current route. By the way, the icons in the status bar are interactive. They serve for quick access to information about traffic, network connection and map display mode. As in any navigator, there are two modes of map display - day and night.

While driving, the map automatically switches to 3D mode. In the settings you can choose one of three Russian-speaking voices for accompaniment. During the trip, you can call up a menu, which will show the travel time, stops and the number of kilometers traveled.

The program supports all versions of iOS from 4.3, including the newly released iOS 7.
