IPhone owners who have installed the latest several updates from Apple have faced the fact that Bluetooth, which was turned off in order to save energy, was turned on by default after the update. In this regard, complaints from users began to appear on the company's support forum.

Opus Research senior analyst Greg Sterling, who hosted the location marketing conference, said he was unaware of Bluetooth being turned on by default. Nevertheless, Sterling said, if this is true, then this is indeed a significant indicator. He stressed that the included Bluetooth is necessary for the iBeacon to work.
It is likely that Apple deliberately turned on Bluetooth in order to support the use of iBeacon technology, which allows retailers to locate and communicate with iPhone owners in the vicinity of retail outlets. Note that, using Bluetooth, this technology launches applications, thanks to which retailers can send promotional coupons or messages to users' smartphones.
In addition, according to the expert, iBeacon works with the Bluetooth protocol, which does not require a lot of power, so this will not affect the battery charge.

Sterling said iBeacon is one of many technologies (sound and acoustic detectors, magnetic sensors, video cameras, etc.) that retailers can use to track consumers in stores, airports, and more.
Stirling noted that public Wi-Fi networks are most often used to determine the user's location, however, unlike iBeacon, they provide insufficiently accurate data. The expert also noted the low cost of iBeacon and ease of use.
