The messaging service WhatsApp has set a new record with 27 billion messages per day, significantly more than last year's record of 18 billion December 31, according to a Twitter post.

Of these, 10 billion messages are incoming and, accordingly, 17 billion are outgoing. Logically, these values should match. This does not happen, since the statistics include group messages, i.e. when sending a message to a group chat of 10 people, it is counted as 1:10.
It is noteworthy that WhatsApp is available to users of almost all platforms, including iOS, Android, Windows Phone, BlackBerry, Asha, Symbian, etc.
The fact that it was not just a record that was broken, but a record set on New Year's Eve - the period when people are most actively exchanging messages - sounds very promising. For example, the same indicator for Twitter, Facebook and others has not been able to step over the mark reached during the New Year holidays within six months, while the number of messages in WhatsApp continues to grow at a phenomenal rate.
WhatsApp CEO Jan Koum claims the app has 200 million monthly users (unknown registered users), even more than Twitter.
The development company has signed agreements not only with mobile operators around the world, but also with phone manufacturers. For example, Nokia added a WhatsApp button to the Asha 210.
It can be argued that WhatsApp is ahead of BlackBerry Messenger (BBM), which has 60 million users and about 10 billion messages per day.
As for other similar services, the Korean KakaoTalk has 96 million registered users and 5.2 billion messages per day. Other major Asian firms, WeChat - China, Line - Japan, and Nimbuzz - India, do not disclose the number of posts, but there is an impressive number of users of 300, 150 and 150 million, respectively. What's more, WeChat's Tencent is breathing down the back of WhatsApp's neck, with 195 million monthly users using the app.
