Transcend is a fundamentally new and promising type of SD-memory cards, with an integrated Wi-Fi transmitter, which can themselves transfer the data stored on them to the Network - they only need a smartphone as a source of energy and content.

In terms of dimensions, appearance and memory capacity, the new product is identical to previous models, but it costs about twice as much. This is compensation for the opportunity to join the world of advanced technologies and send data in a new way, instead of archaic manipulations with a card reader. A full-fledged Wi-Fi module is mounted directly into the memory card itself, through which you can connect to an Internet access point. In the settings, space has been prudently allocated to save three entries - for a typical mode "home-work-favorite cafe" should be enough. And you can also establish a connection between the card and the laptop - support for a network of three devices is available simultaneously.

And this is convenient, for example, when using an extension for the Chrome browser, you can open pictures from the map with a simple double click. It is just as easy to upload fresh photos to the Web, send them by mail, etc., using services like DropBox. At the same time, the smartphone's own functionality is not actually used, and the card does not leave its slot during insertion. True, you first need to install a special application "Wi-Fi SD", get the password hidden in the depths of the instructions and tinker a little with the settings. The average user should, in theory, do it.

Separately, it is worth noting the power supply of the gadget, which itself is not equipped with a battery - there is already little space inside. Firstly, it consumes a lot and at the same time heats up noticeably. Secondly, due to the need to share part of the energy stored in the battery with the memory card, some low-power smartphones are simply not suitable for this purpose - the list is attached. Of course, there is also the included TS-RDP5K card reader, which, through a USB connector, can supply a Wi-Fi transmitter with life-giving electricity from a desktop. But what is the point of taking the card out of the smartphone and using it the same way as a regular one?

At the moment, only the owners of Android gadgets and all devices on the iOS platform can use the new product - for the rest there are simply no corresponding applications written. Those that are available "understand" a whole range of formats: RAW, JPG, BMP, PNG, AVI, MOV, MP4, M2T, MTS, M2TS. But, at the same time, they are still "damp" and sometimes "please" with mistakes, which is unpleasant. And this smoothly leads to the thought - is such a thing needed at all for the layman, and not for the geek? Perhaps, in the near future, Wi-Fi will be in every button, and card readers will remain only on the shelves of museums, a similar memory card will be perceived as a typical accessory. But, today, not everyone will want to abandon the proven method of transferring data from a mobile communicator to a base station and the Internet.
