Despite the fact that the passcode for unlocking an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch can significantly increase the level of protection of the device, security is under direct threat if suddenly the device is already unlocked and someone especially curious decides to read the message history or spoil the statistics in the game.
Fortunately, a huge number of all kinds of tweaks have appeared since the release of the Evasi0n jailbreak, which allow you to password protect individual applications on iOS devices. One of the main candidates, the iAppLock tweak, has received an update for the final version of the mobile OS and, in addition, has a number of unique features.
While most tweaks are configured through the standard Settings, iAppLock is a standalone application with an icon on the home screen. The application itself has a simplified user interface that follows the standard iOS 7 design and consists of three main tabs: protection, settings, and more.
The first tab displays a small plus sign that, when pressed, the user can select applications for password protection. The free version of iAppLock allows you to password protect up to five apps, when purchasing the Pro version removes this limitation.
When you or someone else tries to open a protected application, a password prompt appears on the screen, preventing access for a while until the user enters a code. IAppLock itself is also equipped with a password, and therefore third-party people will not be able to go into the settings and disable it. Unfortunately, the alphanumeric format is not yet supported, but future updates will hopefully fix this. In addition, a similar function for folders clearly would not hurt.
The Settings tab includes several adjustable options, including a lockout delay time, which allows you to open protected applications without entering a password for a short time after successfully logging into one of them. For example, after activating Facebook, other “locked” applications become available to the user for a few minutes. The time varies from 1 minute to half an hour. In addition, there are functions for changing the password and recovering it via email authentication (see screenshot above).
The final More tab offers the option to provide feedback to developers from The ThinkYeah Studio or share a tweak. There is also a link to an upgrade to a non-existent pro version, which, of course, is actively being worked on.
iAppLock is available for free in the BigBoss repository. If you own an iPhone 5s, then be sure to pay attention to the BioProtect and BioLockdown tweaks, you will find a lot of interesting things.
