The Apple development team decided to combine the speed of a computer mouse with the accuracy of a trackpad. The combination of two motion sensors in one device resulted in a patent filed and published by the company on Thursday.

The patent application published the US Patent and Trademark Office, the innovative idea called "hybrid inertial sensor and an input device" (Hybrid Inertial Sensing and Touch Input Device). According to the description, the technology provides for automatic switching between inertial (mouse) and touch (trackpad) data input, providing control of the device cursor.

The patent is based on the use of the difference between the parameters of two different inputs, thanks to which the device will be able to determine which one is most suitable in each case.

Despite the fact that modern technology is quite possible to implement such a patent in devices, there is no information that Apple is developing or planning to develop real devices with a hybrid sensor.
