In a standard smartphone case, Canopy engineers have built a small touchpad, roughly the size of the iPhone's touchscreen.
It is used to receive commands while the main screen remains free. The Sensus case does not have a built-in touch screen, but a touchpad, equipped with its own microprocessor unit for recognizing clicks.
The author of the development claims that its sensitivity is noticeably higher than that of the iPhone display itself. The device supports up to 10 different types of clicks, which are interpreted as analogs of swipes and types. In addition, there is another small touchpad on the side of the case.
Why do you need such a gadget? It's simple, moving the control unit to the rear panel frees up space on the main screen. That is, you can play, watch videos, surf the Web without closing your own review with your own fingers. Plus, Sensus still remains a case and protects the smartphone from damage to a certain extent.
The novelty does not have its own battery, it connects to the iPhone via the dock connector and quite noticeably consumes the smartphone's battery. On the other hand, it was possible to make the case light and compact without an autonomous power source.
The manufacturing company Sensus has already prepared an SDK for developers so that they can easily provide support for an interesting management method in their applications. The Canopy touchpad case will be on sale around the middle of this year for an estimated price of $ 99.
