Samsung's phablets aren't the only gigantic ones. The scale of the South Korean giant itself is truly enormous. Earlier this week, Samsung announced the creation of a new research and development facility in Mountain View, California. Construction is scheduled to be completed by the end of next year.

According to the project, the area of the new campus in Silicon Valley will be 8.5 hectares, the main objects of which will be two six-story office buildings with a total area of more than 35,000 square meters. Of course, this campus looks rather modest in comparison with Samsung's center on the San Jose campus, which has a total area of over 100,000 square meters. And, if the number of square meters occupied by offices and centers of Samsung in various parts of the world is huge, then the number of its employees is much more impressive.

The press release announcing the start of construction for the company's new R&D center in Silicon Valley also cites another huge figure. No, this is not Samsung's annual sales of $ 187.8 billion, although this figure, of course, cannot but cause admiration. Samsung said it currently employs 270,000 people worldwide in 79 countries.

At the end of July this year, reporting the results of the second quarter, Samsung counted the number of its employees and it was 236 thousand people. In less than three months, the company's staff reached 270 thousand. With this growth rate, Samsung's global headcount could surpass the population of countries like Belize and Iceland over the next few years.

For comparison, Apple employs about 80 thousand people around the world.

The company Samsung is a conglomerate consisting of many companies around the world. So, not all of the giant's nearly 300,000 employees create Galaxy smartphones and tablets. Samsung also manufactures various components for electronics, including processors and memory modules, and sells them to partners, including Apple. The South Korean company also uses components produced in its factories to create its own devices, which span numerous product categories, from smartphones and computers to televisions, refrigerators and washing machines.
