The company the Foxconn, which assembles Apple smartphones to the iPhone 5s, supplied about 1.4 million of these devices to the Chinese mobile operator China Mobile. The world's largest operator plans to launch the flagship model of the Apple smartphone on Friday.

After years of negotiations, Apple finally announced last month that iPhones will be distributed on the largest mobile provider's network from January 17, 2014. The initial volume of smartphone shipments, of course, does not provide an estimate of the total planned sales of China Mobile for January. However, this indicator allows us to assess the degree of early demand for iPhone (pre-order volumes) among customers of China Mobile, which has a subscriber network of more than 760 million people.
As previously reported, China Mobile began accepting pre-orders for iPhones from December 25 last year. Together with the iPhone 5s, China Mobile will also start selling the "budget" iPhone 5c on Friday, however, no data on the volume of shipments of these devices has been indicated. The main Apple partner in the assembly of the iPhone 5c is the Chinese company Pegatron.
Analysts' estimates of China Mobile's potential iPhone sales vary widely, ranging from 10 million to 30 million units of devices that could be sold this year. Some experts believe that sales may be below expectations due to the fact that the demand for the iPhone in the Chinese mobile market is already partially satisfied by other operators, including China Unicom and China Telecom, as well as weakening demand for Apple products in the Middle Kingdom.
On the other hand, China Mobile's customers already have tens of millions of iPhones owners who use these devices unofficially. True, they are deprived of the opportunity to take advantage of high data exchange rates due to technological incompatibility between older models of smartphones and the mobile operator's network. As such, China Mobile already has a sizable base of iPhone users who may wish to update their devices soon.
