Apple's policy on operating systems for computers is fundamentally different from its main competitor, Microsoft. In particular, the "apple" company does not practice the official notification of users about the end of support for outdated versions, however, this can be judged by the lack of important updates.
In the case of OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard, the litmus indicator was the SSL verification technology update, which was released for all current Apple operating systems. Versions iOS 6.1.6 and iOS 7.0.6, OS X Mavericks 10.9.2, as well as updates for OS X Lion 10.7 and OS X Mountain Lion 10.8 were released, but OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard remained vulnerable to interception of data transmitted wirelessly. In addition, at the end of last year, Apple developers also released an update for the Safari browser, closing the found security hole, but OS X 10.6 users were left out of business.
OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard was released on August 28, 2009, and was supported until September 2013 - a fairly long period for Apple operating systems. Despite the relatively high base cost of the operating system (at the time of release, new users had to pay $ 125 per copy), OS X 10.6 has gained wide popularity - even now about 19% of all Mac users use it (according to Net Applications), which is more than the still supported OS X 10.7 Lion (16%). This is partly because Snow Leopard is the last version of OS X to support Intel processors running on 32-bit architecture.
