Apple has always had a strong focus on user safety. This time, the company decided to increase the security of Apple ID accounts by introducing a two-tier access system. Now, in order to make changes to your account, or make a purchase in iTunes or the App Store, you, in addition to the password, will need to enter an additional code.

This code will be sent to your device the moment you want to take any action with your account. The received code will need to be entered in the pop-up dialog box of the device.
This function is optional, i.e., in order for it to start working, it must first be activated. To do this, you need to go to Apple's dedicated account management page (appleid.apple.com). Having entered the system once, you can add one or more of your devices, which will be able to receive security four-digit codes. Codes can be received either via SMS or via notifications from the Find My Phone application (if you have the application installed).

By activating two-level protection, access to your account will be provided only if you have a password and a security code, which is sent only to the devices you have chosen. A fallback option for gaining access is a special Recovery Key - this is a 14-digit code that Apple recommends to print and hide in a safe place. This code allows you to access your Apple ID if you unexpectedly cannot use other access methods.
This function is highly demanded because more recently, Twitter and Evernote reported that their services were hacked.
