Apple continues to improve its own online mobile app store, the App Store, by changing content ranking algorithms. This is the conclusion reached by Mobiledevhq analysts after examining the dynamics of growth / decline in app positions for 30 thousand keywords.
It is noted that the implemented new algorithms significantly influenced the overall rating - applications for the iPhone shifted by an average of 41.5 positions (which is 8 times more than usual indicators), and for iPad - by 20.8 positions (the gap increased approximately 4 times). Naturally, this "restructuring" of the App Store directly affects developers and SEOs, who will be forced to use additional tools to promote their products.
Analysts believe that the App Store administrationshifted the focus to the popularity of applications. Thus, programs, games and services that have more downloads and positive reviews received more "weight" than those that are designed in accordance with all the rules and more meet the semantics of the request. In other words, for high-frequency, general-topic queries, such as "Music" or "Book", applications that have received a lot of positive reviews and have a solid audience will rank higher than those that have a single root word in the name, as it was in most cases before.
What does this mean for developers? Ideally, such steps should provoke them to intensify competition and fight for every positive review and link on a thematic resource. In fact, most likely, we will get a situation in which developers will be forced to allocate solid budgets for external promotion of the application, cultivating reviews, rave reviews, mentions on thematic forums, etc. Recall also that last month Apple changed the search engine in the App Store, "teaching" it to correct user errors when entering a query.
