For some time, an advertisement for an iPad Air tablet featured on the home page of The New York Times as part of the “Your Verse” campaign was positioned just above the news of a plane crash in the Indian Ocean. Everything would have worked out if Apple's advertising image did not depict the underwater world and a person with a tablet in hand. According to AdAge, the iPad Air ad was soon removed as more Twitter users began to express their frustrations and concerns.

Note that within the campaign "Your Verse" Cupertinians decided to portray a number of people who use modern Apple gadgets in various unusual or extreme conditions. In the case of the Times ad, it was a marine biologist studying coral growth. It is not yet known how the incident could affect the relationship between Apple and the publication, because the Times is one of the main partners in the promotion. Interestingly, advertisements for the Cupertino-based company have also appeared in print media, not just digitally.
