Owners of iPad tablets may soon get a new, more compact keyboard option for their device. Apple plans to improve the iPad Smart Case by adding an integrated multi-touch keyboard.
As follows from Apple's patent application “Cover for electronic device”, the novelty will be a combination of existing Smart Case or Smart Cover, with a thin touch keyboard.
Unlike similar products, Apple's designers did not take the path of turning the keyboard into a cover element. Instead, the keyboard is a separate component, the presence or absence of which does not affect the functionality of the case itself. Thus, if serious work with the text is not foreseen, you can not take it with you, and thereby facilitate the device.
The Smart Case and Smart Cover currently use magnets to hold the closed position, but Apple's updated accessory will have several other design elements, including buttons, snaps, buckles, Velcro and "other types of mechanical fasteners," the patent application says. …
According to the Apple document, the keyboard can connect to the iPad either wirelessly or with a cable. Most third-party iPad keyboards on the market today connect to the tablet via Bluetooth, much like Apple's native aluminum wireless keyboard.
