Thanks to the introduction of the Activation Lock feature in iOS 7, since June 2013, owners of Apple gadgets have become less and less victims of mobile thefts. Over the year, the number of thefts of Apple smartphones has dropped sharply, but Samsung phone owners have nothing to rejoice yet.

The New York State Attorney General reported in early June that the rate of theft of Apple devices is steadily falling. The reason for this is the lack of sense in the theft of gadgets, which are irretrievably blocked by the user immediately after theft. For this reason, the criminals had to look for an alternative, which the owners of Samsung phones were good for. As a result, more frequent thefts of smartphones by the Korean manufacturer.
The police announced statistics according to which theft of Samsung phones increased by 40% compared to the number of thefts last year. Representatives of the Korean company, in response to the presented figures, said that they continue to work with law enforcement agencies and mobile operators to reduce the level of theft.

The New York State attorney believes that equipping smartphones with a function like Activation Lock will significantly protect both phone owners and their property from fraud.
Google and Microsoft have also rushed to protect their phones. According to their plans, the next versions of the Android and Windows Phone operating systems will be equipped with analogues of the Activation Lock function, which will make it possible to nullify the theft of mobile devices.
