The annual Google I / O conference this year was traditionally pompous and was broadcast in 90 countries on six continents. However, the vice-presidents of the "corporation of good" did not manage to surprise the fans of information technologies with something special.

Company success
Each presentation of any industrial corporation begins with a kind of progress report. Figures and indicators can be very abstract, but they must necessarily have at least six zeros. So, the active audience of smartphone owners over the past year in Google was estimated at 600 million people, the number of users of the company's services (YouTube, Gmail, Google Maps, etc.) exceeded one billion, 8 out of 10 phones sold are controlled by the Android operating system, sold 17 million Chromecast consoles, 35 car brands offer Android Auto drivers, and more.
Android M
Undoubtedly, the most intriguing moment of the conference was the release of the new version of the mobile operating system Android M. Considering that at the moment only 10% of devices running the green robot have the previous 5.0 Lollipop installed, none of the reviewers expected cardinal innovations, but they still hoped for surprises … The presentation of the new platform was divided into six points.

1. App Permissions
From now on, all applications installed from Google Play will ask the user for access to the microphone, camera, determining the location, sending notifications, etc. This function has long been familiar to owners of iOS devices, so it doesn't need a detailed description.
2. Web Experience
Another hello from iOS - now Android users will be able to open links in apps without launching the browser. Explaining in simple terms, the programs will be embedded in the Chrome shell, which performs almost the same functions as the web browser itself, including autocomplete forms, multimedia playback, etc. Naturally, application developers will receive the appropriate APIs.
3. App Links
This feature is designed to save users from fiddling with links. So, if you receive a link to a post on Twitter in an email, you can launch the Twitter application with one click, without unnecessary delay.
4. Android Pay
Full analogue of Apple Pay - to pay for goods or services, you only need an Android device equipped with an NFC wireless data transmission chip. It is not yet known whether this technology will allow confirming purchases through a fingerprint sensor and whether its appearance means the death of Google Wallet. However, cooperation with the largest payment systems (Visa, MasterCard, American Express) and 700,000 stores, fast food outlets and other retail outlets has already been announced.
5. Doze
This technology allows you to statistically calculate the time of day when the user is most actively using the device and optimize its power consumption. Dave Burke, who presented Android M, did not go into technical details, but said that on the new firmware, the Nexus 9 tablet works twice as long without recharging.
6. Fingerprint sensors
From now on, third-party software developers will be able to use optimized APIs to create applications using various fingerprint scanners.
Android Wear
The operating system for wearable gadgets, criticized by many reviewers, has received a number of significant innovations. The previous four platform updates did little to surprise smartwatch owners. Now users will be able to display the most popular applications in black and white energy-saving mode. That is, having set the clock, you do not have to unlock or shake the device - the time will be displayed on it all the time.

In addition, it will now be possible to scroll through applications with a simple turn of the hand, draw Emoji emoticons (which will be automatically recognized by the system and transformed into icons), and recognize music through Shazam using the built-in microphone. It was also noted that there are more than 4,000,000 Android Wear apps and the imminent release of such programs as: Uber, Foursquare, CityMapper, etc.
Internet of things
Google, represented by Sundar Pichai, promises to end the confusion in this IT segment. The Brillo operating system and the Weave cross-platform language will launch in the third and fourth quarters of this year, which will enable easier interaction between devices and cloud services.

Google Now and search
The voice assistant and search engine will become even more susceptible to even not the most correct queries. For this, the development team is working on deepening machine recognition of the context of key phrases and in the near future Google will be able to correctly understand and process even the most complex user questions.

Google photos
The answer to Apple's iCloud Music Library with add-ons. Now photos can be sorted by day, month, year, album, tags. All pictures will be automatically saved to the cloud, which is provided free of charge and with the only limitation - the size of the image must not exceed 16 MB, and the video is accepted as 1080p or lower. The cardinal differences from the apple version include the ability to quickly delete graphics and select several objects with one gesture for sharing.

Other
In addition to the above functions, technologies and services, the heads of Google development departments also talked about optimizing and reducing the cost of branded Chromebook laptops, the YouTube Offline service, which allows you to store videos on the device for 48 hours, improvements related to the Play Market, Google Maps, Cardboard projects, GoPro Jump, Project Loon and more.
