According to the latest data from market research firm IDC, Samsung and Apple continue to lead the global smartphone market, but may soon find themselves in a difficult situation due to increasing pressure from the Chinese manufacturer Huawei. IDC experts note that Samsung still dominates the market with a 23.8% share. In the third quarter, the South Korean company shipped 84.5 million smartphones. Last year, the figures were 23.9% and 79.6 million, respectively.
Apple is in second place in the manufacturer race. It accounts for 13.5% of the market, and the number of smartphones shipped in the third quarter of this year amounted to 48 million against 11.8% and 39.3 million in the same period in 2014.
Analysts believe that the growth may be driven by strong sales of the new iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus. According to Apple, after the release of the new generation of iPhone, the number of migrants from Android has increased several times. According to the data, the company sold a record 13 million smartphones in its first weekend.
By strengthening its position in the European and Chinese markets, Huawei continues to overtake Samsung and Apple. The Chinese company currently ranks third in the world's five largest smartphone manufacturers (previously the bronze belonged to its compatriot Xiaomi) with a market share of 7.5% and 26.5 million devices shipped in the third quarter of 2015.
The quintet of leaders is rounded out by Lenovo and Xiaomi, with a market share of 5.3% and 5.2% respectively. In the third quarter, the first shipped about 18.8 million smartphones, the second - 18.3 million. The total shipments of all five manufacturers amounted to 159.1 million gadgets, and the world indicator - 355.5 million devices against 332.6 million last year. According to experts, the growth in performance is associated with the release of new flagship devices such as the iPhone 6s, Galaxy S6 edge + and Galaxy Note 5.
