Today a specially created committee of the Ministry of Telecom and Mass Communications submitted to the government a bill providing for the complete blocking of pirate sites. First of all, torrent trackers, social networks and file-sharing resources will come under attack.

Previously, administrators of the above types of resources managed to avoid responsibility for several reasons at once. Firstly, the users themselves were downloading pirated content, and secondly, illegal files were simply deleted from the servers in the event of an alleged violation by the copyright holders. However, now the situation may radically change. The Ministry of Telecom and Mass Communications proposes to close forever websites of violators, without the right to restore. Naturally, a number of questions immediately arise, to which hardly anyone can give an intelligible answer.

The situation is aggravated by the fact that representatives of the department have rather vaguely outlined the image of the offending website, which deserves a complete blocking. It is assumed that these will be resources that receive substantial profits from illegal content, as well as violators convicted of piracy not for the first time. On the other hand, the court decision to close the website will be made on the basis of the claim of the copyright holders, which excludes the possibility of applying sanctions on the principle of "bad-good". Be that as it may, the Russian Internet community is already preparing an open letter to D. A. Medvedev, in which he will bother about the rejection of such a tough bill.
