The entry into force of the so-called "blogging law" recently signed by Vladimir Putin could have far-reaching consequences. In particular, some American social networks and services in Russia can be simply blocked, the number one candidate is Twitter.

Maxim Ksenzov, deputy head of Roskomnadzor, told about this in an interview with Izvestia. He said that interaction with representatives of large foreign social networks and other resources is significantly complicated by a number of factors. This is, first of all, about the American Internet companies Google, Facebook and Twitter. Of the whole trinity, only the "corporation of good" has an official legal representation in Russia, which, however, does not influence the situation too much.

Nevertheless, Facebook and Google satisfy some of Roskomnadzor's requests, in particular those concerning extremist communities and accounts, while Twitter actually ignores such violations from users. Kenzov connects this with the personal interest of some of the company's employees:

At the same time, the deputy head of the Russian department believes that some of the listed companies are deliberately complicating the situation, actually provoking Roskomndzor to make categorical and tough decisions. Thus, if the assessment of the harm that could be done to the Russian Internet community in the long term by blocking these services turns out to be less significant than the consequences of the activities of extremist and other illegal communities, then such a decision will be made immediately.

Vadim Ampelonsky, spokesman for Roskomnadzor, confirmed that the claims expressed by Ksenzov are the official position of the department. However, it became known that Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev has already reacted harshly to such interviews of officials on his Facebook page. He noted that some of them need to "turn on their brains more often" and "not announce the closure of social networks."
