According to Stack Overflow, there are now more developers using Mac OS X as their primary operating system than those who prefer Linux. If this continues, less than half of developers will be using Windows next year.

Stack Overflow says their research on developer preferences is the most comprehensive ever done. This is easy to believe, because 56 thousand programmers from 173 countries took part in the survey.
When it comes to mobile platforms, developers are still more supportive of Android (61.9%) than iOS (47.5%). Apple's Swift programming language is used by nearly a third of app developers. It ranks second in popularity after Rust.
