Starting with OS X Yosemite on the Mac, there is a useful feature called SMS Continuity that lets you receive (forward) SMS messages from iPhone to Mac.

The essence of the function is the ability to forward SMS messages from iPhone to Mac and vice versa. You can use Forwarding Messages only between an iPhone with iOS 8.1.x (or later) and a Mac with OS X Yosemite (or later).

How to receive SMS from iPhone to iMac, MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, etc
1. Open the Settings app on iPhone and go to the Messages section.
2. Activate the iMessage service according to this instruction (on iPhone and iPad: Settings -> Messages, on macOS: Messages app -> Settings -> Accounts).

In addition, you must use a single Apple ID on both iPhone (Settings -> Your name (at the very top) -> iCloud) and Mac (System Preferences -> iCloud).
3. Go to the Forwarding section (in iOS 8, the feature is called Message Forwarding). A list of computers on the same Wi-Fi network and linked by the same Apple ID will appear.

4. Select the required computer and activate the switch. A form for entering the confirmation code will appear. The Messages app will generate and send a verification code to the selected Mac.

five. Open the Messages app on Mac with iMessage activated (iMessage on Mac is activated by following the path Messages -> Preferences -> Accounts). The six-digit confirmation code sent in the previous paragraph will appear.

6. Enter the code you received on your Mac into the form on your iPhone.
That's it, you have successfully activated the SMS Continuity function.

The feature is the next building block in building a single coherent Apple ecosystem. With its help, you can correspond with family and friends, using both iPhone and iPad, and Mac. At the same time, sending a message to the interlocutor will not be difficult, you just need to click on the corresponding icon in Contacts.
