Cydia is an iOS software application that is a graphical interface for APT and Dpkg Deb package management systems. Cydia allows you to view and install applications (tweaks) on jailbroken (jailbroken) iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad. Cydia was developed by Jay Freeman known as “Saurik” as an open source alternative to the App Store
and quickly became the most popular Deb package manager. Most of the apps in Cydia are free to install. Apps are installed on iOS devices in much the same way as apps from the App Store.

The first version of Cydia was released by Saurik in March 2008 as an alternative to Installer.app for OS 1.1, and in July 2008, after the release of OS 2.0, it became the most popular Deb file manager. In August 2009, 4 million out of 40 million iPhone and iPod Touch owners, i.e. 10% have Cydia installed on their devices. In September 2010, Saurik acquires Rock Your Phone, the creators of Rock.app, and becomes the largest distributor of third-party software for jailbroken devices.
Opening the program
IMPORTANT! At the first launch, the program must have access to the Internet.
Immediately after opening, Cydia will automatically start automatic configuration, after which the program will close. When you restart the program, it will ask about your level of training and offer you the following options:
Standard User
Hacker
Developer
I always choose "hacker":) I advise you to choose this item too. Then the program will start updating the list of repositories and data about the programs that are located in them and check for updates. In the Changes tab, a message may appear at the bottom of the number of available updates. Feel free to update at this stage. If a message like "Network Error" or "Unable to load" appears, check your Internet connection. To work in Cydia need a stable relationship, since many repositories there is a timeout in the connection.
Cydia Home Screen (Home)
This page can provide valuable information about your phone's stored digital signatures (SHSH). If any, they will be displayed above the Welcome to Cydia label, for example SHSH: iOS 4.1, 4.2.1. More information about SHSH is written in this article (for a larger image, click on it).

Let's consider the purpose of the remaining Cydia sections:
Sections
This section contains all Cydia software packages available for installation, all of them are divided into categories. A number is indicated on the category folder, it indicates the number of applications available within this category.

Changes
This section contains available updates for installed applications. They can be installed by clicking on the "Upgrade" button.

Manage
The most important section of Cydia. It monitors the state of the device memory load, works with installed applications and repositories. Manage is divided into three subsections Packages, Sources, Storage. Let's consider each one separately.

The Packages subsection contains all the applications you have installed and installed automatically by Cydia itself, for example, "dependency programs", the fact is that some programs you install may not work without additional installed applications, therefore, along with the program, the necessary "dependency programs" are installed automatically ". Therefore, be very careful when changing this section. Do not remove service applications and "dependency programs", this may lead to incorrect operation of applications and the device!

Sources
Section on working with repositories. This section contains all the repositories added by default by Cydia, as well as the sources you added later. What is a repository and you can find out links to the best repositories in this article.

Storage
Subsection that shows the state of the device memory load. Divided into two sections: System, the system section, where Cydia adds apps and libraries by default, and Private, the custom section that contains apps from the App Store, Cydia, and media files. Pie charts and percentages show the used and free disk space on the device.

Search
Section for searching applications from all installed repositories on your device. If you want to find the desired program using the search, just start typing the name of the desired program, it will appear in the list of applications. It should be noted that if you do not have the repository installed in which the required program is located, then the search will not find it.

And so you can summarize the above sections of Cydia:
Home - information about SHSH, app announcements, news, questions and answers on Cydia.
Sections - applications divided into categories: ringtones, dictionaries, games, themes, books, utilities, navigation and others.
Changes is a section indicating available updates.
Manage - a section containing Packages (list of installed programs), Sources (list of repositories), Storage (information about available and used disk space).
Search - search for applications in all repositories.
