The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth is a sequel to the original roguelike project The Binding of Isaac from Super Meat Boy developer Edmund McMillen. Following the success of the first installment of The Binding of Isaac, released in 2011, McMillen teamed up with studio Nicalis to create a larger version of The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth with a memorable style, provocative biblical themes and expanded gameplay. The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth turned out to be a very peculiar, unlike other "roguelike", the passage of which will not be limited to one time.

By analogy with the original, the plot of Rebirth (translated from the English. "Rebirth") was based on the biblical story about Abraham and Isaac - a God-fearing parent and his offspring. In McMillen's version, Isaac lives with his mother, who prefers watching religious television programs to her son and, after watching the programs, decides to sacrifice her child to God. However, Isaac did not wait for such a radical action and fled to the basement through a hatch in the floor. The boy discovered a network of catacombs under the house, inhabited by not the most friendly creatures. To escape from hell, Isaac needs to go down several floors below, and only tears can help him, which literally turn into a deadly weapon.
The game offers a lot of interesting things: new bosses, new levels, new endings and new races that you can try to master. Some rare items and achievements can only be obtained during certain races, and you will want to return more than once in the hope of finding something new. The game will not let you get bored, as you constantly have to figure out how certain objects work, unlock new characters or complete special tasks.

For each game session, a special eight-digit code ("seed") is generated. Seeds do not allow you to open items, but you can practice at a certain level in order to learn how to fight certain enemies or bosses, get to some items, or experiment with optional features. In addition, certain seeds can serve as cheat codes, both literally and figuratively (providing powerful items from the start). But this is the beauty of Rebirth - the game constantly confronts you with new challenges, while at the same time allowing you to make new discoveries each time.

The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth is a really difficult game, and its difficulty can vary depending on the seed generated. For example, you may be given powerful weapons early in the game, although the harder the start, the harder you will be in subsequent races.
The game still borrows the concept of the original The Legend of Zelda. All locations are rooms in which opponents can randomly appear, doors, chests, basements, etc. Moreover, on each conditional "floor" of the basement there is an artifact, and the exit to the new level is guarded by the boss.
The battles feel strange, not least because your basic weapon will be Isaac's tears, which you still need to get used to shooting. But as you progress, you will receive many modifiers and optional items that can be used in battle, for example, minions that help with attacks, cards or pills that have different effects.
Rebirth is played noticeably more comfortably than its predecessor due to the new game engine showing 60 frames per second. In addition, the graphics have become noticeably better: by default, the game looks pixelated (if desired, the corresponding filter can be turned off), and the objects are more detailed. Unlike the original The Binding of Isaac, Rebirth allows you to interrupt the game in order to resume from the same place later.

One of the big innovations was a local co-op for two players (requires an MFi controller), but the possibilities of the second participant are rather limited. Firstly, instead of a full-fledged character, your partner will gain control over a ghost that helps Isaac destroy the enemy, and secondly, he will not be able to go through walls or pick up objects.
Rebirth will appeal to those who are not embarrassed by the free interpretation of biblical traditions and uncomfortable atmosphere. The game offers simple but very addicting mechanics, over 100 characters (10 playable) and over 450 items. The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth is available in the App Store for RUB 1150. The game is compatible with iPhone, iPad or iPod touch running iOS 10 or higher. Please note: the game can be downloaded by persons over 17 years of age.
