What is the battery life of an iPhone? In this article, we will tell you about the type of battery installed in the iPhone, how to assess its condition and how to properly charge it.

What type of batteries does iPhone have?
Each iPhone comes with a lithium-ion battery. They have enough advantages over "traditional" batteries: they charge faster, work longer, and weigh less.

How is the iPhone battery charged?
Battery recharging consists of two phases. During the first - from 0 to 80% - the battery is replenished with energy quickly (the exact charging time depends on whether the device is being used, settings and other factors). The second - from 80 to 100% - is called compensatory, it "weakens" the electric current and thereby allows you to extend the life of the iPhone battery.

What is a charge cycle and why is it important?
One cycle is when you discharge your iPhone from 100% to zero. This can be done in one go or in several. Example: the battery is 75% discharged in a day. You charged it to 100% and continued to use it. One recharge cycle will end when you use up another 25% of the charge (yesterday's 75% + today's 25%).

What are we for? The iPhone's battery naturally has a resource. After 500 full recharging cycles, the battery capacity of the "apple" smartphone will decrease by 15-20%. In practice, 500 charging cycles is 1.5-2 years of smartphone operation. After about 3-4 years, the battery capacity will correspondingly decrease by 50% from the value that the iPhone had out of the box. Then it makes sense to think about replacing the battery - after all, you will probably notice that your iPhone, for example, no longer "survives" until the evening and lets you down at the right time.
Why do you need to know the number of complete iPhone charges?
This information can be useful to the buyer when buying an iPhone hand-held, as well as to determine the current state of the battery, in the event of, for example, an intense discharge.
Can you see the number of charge cycles completed directly on the iPhone?
Over time, you may start to feel like your iPhone is starting to drain faster. It may be time to contact a service center and replace the battery. But has it really exhausted its resource? There are applications that allow you to find out the number of charge cycles, but they are mainly intended for viewing this information on a computer. In other words, you have to connect your smartphone to your computer and use special utilities.
Unfortunately, Apple does not officially provide data on iPhone charging cycles, although such data can be easily viewed on the company's laptops. But there is a way that few people know about, find out the number of charge cycles directly on the iPhone. We will tell you how you can do this.
How to find out the number of battery charge cycles on iPhone
1. Go to Settings → Privacy → Analytics & Improvements.

2. Activate the Share for iPhone & Watch feature if it is disabled for you.
Please note that if you previously disabled this function, then you will be able to receive the required information about the state of the iPhone battery only the next day. After all, it is this option that enables the device to collect specific information for its subsequent sending to Apple. A disabled function simply does not allow the collection of the required information. Only a day after activation, the device will save technical data for analytics.
3. A page will open where you need to find lines of the typical form log-aggregated-date-xxxxxx.ips. Obviously, the name contains the date when the log file was created. You will need the most recent line.

4. Scroll through the opened document about 2/3 (slightly more than half) and find the necessary word BatteryCycleCount in the text. The number immediately below BatteryCycleCount between the words integer will indicate the exact number of charge / discharge cycles of your battery. In our case - 259.

If you could not find the BatteryCycleCount string directly on the iPhone, send this document to your computer, open it using Notepad on Windows or TextEdit on Mac. Using the search to find the text BatteryCycleCount will not be difficult.

However, in the iOS settings, there is still a section Settings → Battery → Battery status, which contains information about the current state of the iPhone battery (in detail).

How to know the number of iPhone recharge cycles completed on Mac or Windows?
Use iBackupBot for Windows and macOS computers.
Download iBackupBot for free (30 days trial)
After installation, connect the iPhone, select it in the Devices section, click on More Information and look at the number opposite the CycleCount - this is the number of recharge cycles already passed.

How to Charge iPhone Battery Correctly?
- Apple advises not to charge up to 100%! If possible, keep it in the 20 to 80 percent range. This will prevent you from "overextending" the cells in your battery, and recharge cycles will "leak" more slowly. According to independent researcher Eric Limer, the iPhone battery, which was constantly charged to 100%, can really be safely thrown out after 500 cycles. But a battery that has never been charged more than 70 percent will only have to be replaced after 1,200 cycles!
- There is one exception to the previous rule. Once a month, it's a good idea to drain your iPhone to zero and then charge it to 100%.
- Do not leave your iPhone on "overnight" charging - electrons in a lithium battery must move, which does not happen when connected to a power outlet for many hours.
- Avoid extremely high and extremely cold temperatures. Batteries love 15 degrees Celsius. If you have plus 25 outside your window all year round - get ready for a loss of battery capacity by 20% every year, if +40, already by 35%!
- Avoid using wireless charging iPhone cases. Wireless charging itself creates excess heat, which, as you already know, damages the battery.
