Everyone is good at macOS - only a very … creative person made the Russian keyboard for it. He decided that it would be easier to type the comma and the period not like on a PC, but in a special way - with Shift held down and additional pressing for some reason not on the key next to the “shift”, but on the fairly remote numbers 6 and 7. How to fix this?

No, this is really a problem - personally, I know at least two people who abandoned (or pretended to abandon) a Mac for this very reason! Of course, in the settings of the Apple desktop operating system, you can put a PC keyboard and type commas in the same way as before … but that's not our way, right? For true fans of Apple's typing approach, there is the following recommendation.

How to put period and comma on Mac keyboard (macOS) - 3 ways
Method 1 - installing the "Russian - PC" keyboard in macOS
If you do not want to relearn, set as the Russian keyboard not the usual "Russian", but "Russian - PC", for this:
1. Open System Preferences and go to the Keyboard section.

2. Select the Input Sources tab.
3. Press the "+" button.

4. Select Russian in the left menu, and Russian - PC in the right menu.
5. Click Add.

For ease of switching, the usual Russian keyboard can now be removed.
Now, having selected the keyboard "Russian - PC", the point can be typed with the last key with a question mark (located in front of the right ⇧Shift).

The comma is typed by pressing the combination of this key + ⇧Shift.

Method 2 - ⇧Shift + 6 or ⇧Shift + 7
Personally, I use this method on a regular Russian keyboard. But I had to get used to it. The main disadvantage of this method is the ability to use it only when printing in Russian.

Method 3 - through the letters "B" and "U"
Take a closer look at your keyboard. The letters " B " and " U " have a dot and a comma. This means that some combination of "hot keys" allows you to type your favorite characters in the same place as before! But which one? We will show you …
It should be noted right away that the letters "B" and "U" in the Latin (USA) layout put a period and a comma without "dancing with a tambourine", but what to do when typing in Russian.

- Type a point with the command Ctrl + ⌥Option (Alt) + U
- Type the comma with the command Ctrl + ⌥Option (Alt) + B

The keyboard shortcut works on Russian (Normal) or Latin (US) layouts.
Of course, there is also a minus here - after all, you need to press not two keys, but three at once. But, I think, for beginners it may be more convenient than the combination of letters ⇧Shift + 6 or ⇧Shift + 7 or hectic searches for a PC keyboard on your Mac, although …
And how do you, friends, type a period and a comma on your Mac?
