That is why the news that from the end of 2020 the company's smartphones will be delivered without traditional bundled headsets and charging is not particularly upsetting.
And let it be presented under the pretext of caring for the environment. Users have long been accustomed to the fact that power supplies for Apple gadgets are quite universal and can be used for different devices. Probably, it's time to stop releasing what users already have and only takes up extra space. But is it really the reason for this was such an attention to the environment?
Starting in 2020, all iPhones come in a smaller box
Apple motivated the seemingly unpopular move with a desire to reduce e-waste and reduce emissions by optimizing production. The goal seems quite noble. But this Apple policy will actually lead most users to the need to buy one more power supply.
Few paid attention to one caveat - the iPhone still comes with a cable, but now it's Lightning / USB-C.
And there are not so many compatible power supplies, because most of the previous iPhones and iPads came with a charger with a USB-A connector. The only exceptions are some iPhone and iPad models released after 2019. Users will simply have nothing to connect to the new cable, and the presence of a MacBook of one of the latest generations, which also comes with a USB-C power supply, will also help. The situation is aggravated even more by the fact that such a cable will now come with not only the new iPhone 12, but also all the old models remaining on sale.
We can safely summarize that loud statements about the protection of nature by Apple are slyness. There is a contradiction - the company claims to reduce the amount of e-waste, but at the same time renders the power supplies in the hands of users useless. Now it will no longer be possible to connect iPhones from new parties to them, regardless of the model. The way out of this situation will be the purchase of an old Lightning to USB-A cable, but this will lead to the fact that the new bundled cable will be unnecessary and you can simply throw it away. Some kind of vicious circle …
How much does it cost to charge iPhone 12
So, Apple is simply forcing its users to attend to the issue of purchasing a new USB-C power supply. Only with its help, it will be possible to charge all iPhones released after October 13. The company has tried to reduce the flow of fair claims somewhat by lowering retail prices for its USB-C power supplies. The most affordable adapter with a power of 20 W (article - MHJE3ZM / A) can be bought for 1,990 rubles.
This is not so much, because previously the usual 5-watt power supply for old iPhones cost only 200 rubles less.
A more profitable choice may seem to be the purchase of a more powerful third-party adapter, for example, from the well-known company Baseus (65 watts):
